Getting started
I just enrolled — what's the first thing to do?
Upload your book on /dashboard/book. The course can't run any exercise without it — every module reads your manuscript directly. Then fill in the 3-question 'About you' panel below the upload (writing hours, experience level, primary goal). Then start with Module 1. The dashboard tags Module 1 with a 'Start here' badge automatically.
What format should my book be in?
PDF is best. We accept PDF or any image format (PNG/JPG/WebP/GIF). If you don't have a final PDF yet, a screenshot of your current Amazon listing works as a starting point — Module 2 specifically supports that. Max file size 25 MB.
I haven't published yet — can I still use the course?
Yes. Modules 1-9 are largely about pre-launch decisions (formatting, KDP setup, metadata, pricing, ads, platform choice). Modules 13 (reviews) and 15 (90-day launch) have explicit 'pre-launch' branches. The 'About you' panel asks for your launch status so the AI calibrates its outputs.
Do I need to do the modules in order?
Not strictly required, but recommended. The dashboard shows 'best after' hints — for example M15 (the launch plan) is best after M5 (metadata), M8 (ads), M12 (email list), M13 (reviews) have been run, because M15 inherits decisions from those. Run them in order and each module's output is sharper.
Running the exercises
How long does an exercise take?
30 to 90 seconds for most modules. Module 15 (the 90-day launch plan capstone) and the integrated plan can take 2-3 minutes because they produce a lot more text. Output streams live so you can watch it being written.
Why does each module ask different questions?
Your manuscript tells the AI about your book. The 'Quick context' fields above the notes textarea tell it about you and your current state — your monthly ad budget for Module 8, your current review count for Module 13, your launch date for Module 15. These dramatically improve the output. They're optional but highly recommended.
What's the difference between an exercise and a Module Q&A question?
Exercises are the structured deliverable for the module — usually 1,500-3,000 words of output. Q&A is for follow-up: ask a specific question after running the exercise (or the module's lesson) and get a 2-4 paragraph answer. Q&A uses a cheaper, faster model (Haiku) and has a separate 30-questions-per-day cap.
I've run an exercise but the output isn't quite right.
Three options: (1) re-run with better Quick-context fields filled in or paste-an-explanation in the notes; (2) ask a follow-up via the 'Ask about this output' Q&A box at the bottom; (3) email hello@publishing.co.uk with the saved-output URL and what's wrong. We update prompts when we spot patterns.
I hit my daily run cap — what now?
Default cap is 10 exercise runs and 30 Q&A questions per 24 hours, rolling. The cap exists to protect against accidental loops or shared accounts. Most students finish a module in 2-3 runs, so this is generous. Email us if you hit it for legitimate reasons and we'll lift it.
Your book + your data
Can I change my book later?
Yes — go to /dashboard/book and replace the manuscript or cover. The new file becomes the canonical book that all future module runs read from. Previous outputs stay saved against the old book.
Should I re-upload after my book changes?
Yes if anything material changed: new cover, new blurb in the manuscript, new edition. The dashboard flags an amber 'stale book' warning if your file has been on for more than 120 days AND you've run any exercises — that's our nudge to refresh.
Where is my book stored?
Your manuscript is uploaded to Anthropic's Files API and referenced by ID throughout the course. We store the file ID and the canonical metadata we extract (title, author, chapter list, etc) in our database, scoped to your account. We never share or publish it. If you delete your account we instruct Anthropic to delete the file too.
Is my data shared with anyone?
No. We process it ourselves, with named sub-processors (Anthropic, Resend, Vercel, Neon, Lemon Squeezy) listed in the privacy policy. We don't sell, share, or use your manuscript for any other purpose. Full breakdown at /privacy.
How do I download all my data?
Go to /dashboard/account and click 'Download my data'. It returns a single JSON file with your account, every book on file, every exercise output, and every Q&A on file. UK GDPR Article 20.
How do I delete my account?
Go to /dashboard/account and use the deletion form (you'll need to type your email to confirm — we don't want one accidental click to wipe months of work). Deletion removes everything: account, books, outputs, enrolment, and instructs Anthropic to delete the manuscript file. Permanent.
Billing + refunds
What does the course cost?
£197 launch price for the first 100 students; £347 standard thereafter. One-off payment, no subscription. Lifetime access including all future updates.
What's the refund policy?
14 days, provided you've completed less than one module's exercises. After that, no refunds — but you keep lifetime access. Email hello@publishing.co.uk for refund requests.
How do I update my billing email?
Lemon Squeezy handles billing. Email them via your customer portal, OR email us at hello@publishing.co.uk and we'll update both sides at once.
I bought through Lemon Squeezy but my account isn't showing as enrolled.
Webhook may have failed (rare). Email hello@publishing.co.uk with your Lemon Squeezy order number; we'll check and manually enrol you within a few hours.
Sign-in + account
I lost the magic-link email — what now?
Just request a new one at /signin. Old links expire after 24 hours anyway. We cap to 5 active links per email at a time, so if you've requested several recently you may need to wait a few minutes.
The magic-link email isn't arriving.
Check your spam folder first — Resend's deliverability is good but the first email to a fresh inbox sometimes lands there. If still nothing after 5 minutes, email hello@publishing.co.uk from a different address and we'll investigate.
Can I change the email on my account?
Email hello@publishing.co.uk from the OLD address requesting the change to the NEW address. We'll verify and migrate. Required for security — we don't allow self-service email changes.
How long does my session last?
7 days from your last activity. After that you'll need to sign in again with a fresh magic link.
Saved outputs + reports
Where do I find my exercise outputs?
/dashboard/outputs lists every output in date order with the module name. Click any one for the full content with a per-block 'Copy' button.
How do I get the integrated 12-month plan?
Go to /dashboard/report. There's a 'Generate my integrated plan' button at the top. It synthesises every module's prior decisions into one consolidated 2,500-word plan — top 3 priorities, 12-month roadmap, consolidated budget, biggest risk, contradictions detected. Re-runnable.
Can I print my book report as PDF?
Yes — /dashboard/report has a Print button. Use your browser's Print dialog and pick 'Save as PDF'. The page is laid out for A4/Letter with a table of contents and per-module sections.
Does 'Mark complete' do anything?
It updates your dashboard progress (5 / 17 → 6 / 17), adds a strike-through on the module card, and records the completion date. The dashboard separately shows '5 run' (output on file) — so the two states are visible: completed-and-marked vs run-but-not-yet-marked.
§ Ask the help bot
Can’t find your answer?
Ask anything about the dashboard, modules, billing, or your account. Powered by Claude Haiku — answers in seconds. Marketing questions about your specific book go to the per-module Q&A instead (it has your manuscript loaded).
For anything urgent or account-specific, email hello@publishing.co.uk and we’ll respond within 1 working day.
